Mugume Ellen is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda with six years of dedicated experience in human rights law, public interest litigation and gender justice. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB, Hons) from Nkumba University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Center and a Master's degree in Social Work from Bugema University. Her academic and professional training includes specialized certification in Child Protection and Human Rights Law from Makerere University
Ellen’s career reflects a strong commitment to advancing social justice and equitable development. She has provided legal aid and mediation services through Justice Centres Uganda and the Uganda Human Rights Commission, where she supported conflict resolution and access to justice initiatives for vulnerable communities.
She currently works as a Gender Specialist supporting BANATEX-EA under Busitema University, and as a Legal Officer at Springs Public Interest Hub, where she contributes to strategic litigation and rights-based advocacy. Her skill set combines gender-responsive development, mediation and cross-sectoral approaches to advancing justice.
Ellen is also an active member of the Women in Arbitration organization, reflecting her broader engagement with legal reform and professional networks. With a unique blend of legal acumen, social work practice, and gender advocacy, she is passionate about protecting rights and promoting inclusive, transformative justice for marginalized groups.
